Holiday schedules vary by service location. Indy Waste observes the following holidays:
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Day
All service days falling on or after the holiday for that week will be pushed back one day.
Yes. You can request a seasonal stop to your service by contacting your local customer support representative. (To find the customer support phone number for your service area, head to our Contact Us page and enter your address.)
When weather-related issues, natural disasters or other serious uncontrollable events occur, we work hard to keep you updated so you’re aware of any possible delays. To keep customers in the loop, we send automated messages in the event of a weather delay. By updating your contact preferences in your account, you can opt to receive emails, phone calls and/or text messages.

Face carts toward the street the night before pickup or by 4 a.m. on your scheduled service day. Allow at least 2 feet between other carts and 5 feet between carts and other objects.
You can cancel your service at any time by contacting your local customer support representative. To find the customer support phone number head to our Contact Us page. Make sure to have your account number and service address handy when you call. Canceling service before the end of your contract may result in early termination fees.
Commonly accepted recyclables include: paper, plastic, cardboard and aluminum. What you can and can’t recycle can vary by location, so call your local provider if you’re unsure.

Tips:
- Remove staples from paper items.
- Remove plastic windows from envelopes.
- Make sure paper pieces are larger than a credit card.
Cardboard
- Cardboard boxes
- File folders

- Ream wrappers
Tips:
- Remove and throw out bags and liners from food packaging.
- Flatten boxes.
- Make sure all cardboard is clean and dry.
Plastic
- Bagged film plastics
- Soda bottles
- Take-out containers
- Water bottles
Tips:
- You can recycle hard plastic items labeled with #1, #2 or #5.
- Empty, rinse and dry bottles and containers.
- Keep lids on bottles or toss them in the trash.
Metal and Aluminum
- Aluminum beverage cans
- Food cans
- Scrap metal
- Some small appliances
Tips:
- Empty, rinse and dry food and beverage cans.
- Keep can tabs on.
Glass (acceptance varies by location)
- Bottles (clear, green and brown)
- Jars
- Colorful glasses
Tips:
- Contact your local provider to see if you can recycle glass in your area.
- Empty, rinse and dry all food and drink containers.
- Keep lids on bottles or toss them in the trash.
Special Handling
Certain items should never be mixed with regular recycling and require special handling. Contact your local provider for assistance with the following:
- Computers
- Electronics
- Fluorescent tubes
- Hazardous waste
- Incandescent light bulbs
- Paint
- Needles
- Syringes
- Toxic material containers
We do not recycle the following materials:
- Aerosol cans
- Aluminum foil soiled with food
- Batteries
- Ceramics
- Cookware
- Food waste
- Glass
- Hardcover books
- Light bulbs
- Mirrors
- Plastics other than products coded #1, #2 or #5
- Bubble wrap
- Packing peanuts and other polystyrene foam plastic (even if it has the recycling symbol)
- Plastic bags
- Plastic-coated paper
- Plastic straws
- Plastic utensils
- Pizza boxes*
- Stickers and address labels
- Styrofoam
- Tissue, paper towels or napkins
